A gentle introduction to non-local operators through fractional calculus
Abstract: In recent years non-local operators appearing as fractional powers of differential operators have gained a lot of attention, especially from the PDE research community.
In an attempt to shed some light on why that is, I will give an introduction to what these operators are, taking the viewpoint of the historical development of fractional calculus, and briefly discuss some recent developments.
